Dept. Round-up: Oct. 11, 2019

  • WE HAVE NEWS! Mark your calendars!! This Tuesday Sam is giving a talk with our friend Nette Compton from The Trust for Public Land. They will be discussing how to target a clear audience, do the work to engage them, and find out what they need from your site. It should be a great time. Don’t worry, this event is FREE, RSVP here!
  • Check out our latest blog post! People don’t like it when they don’t know where they are or how they got there. This goes for airports and websites. Clair dives into bad wayfinding and explains the issues with everyone’s favorite place to get lost, the airport.

  • Have you ever been curious about A/B testing? People ask about this all the time. We do a decent job at explaining A/B testing and it’s benefits, but this article takes it to the next level. Learn about A/B testing basics, everything you can use it for, and how you can benefit from it. It’s a short read, but it’s definitely worth it, especially if you’ve been wondering about A/B testing.

  • Cute Animal of the Week: Cute can be chonky! Katmai Conservancy from Katmai National Park just wrapped up it’s annual Fat Bear Week. Katmai Conservancy monitors bears before they go into hibernation, by watching how they grow. But not by growing up, rather by growing round. In preparation for hibernation, these bears eat whatever they can and definitely get chonky. It really is worth the time to scroll through these photos and see how these bears have grown.

  • Podcast Recommendation – The Informed Life: Obviously, we have a soft spot for Peter Morville, he literally wrote the book on IA. We really enjoyed this episode of Jorge Arango’s show The Informed Life. Jorge and Peter sit down and discuss taking a more mindful approach to dealing with the information in our lives.
  • We are big fans of Abby Covert. So we pulled this article of hers from our educational archives. In this article, Abby covers one of the most difficult aspects of IA, selling it.
