The City University of New York hosts a social network across its 24 campuses for graduate students called the CUNY Academic Commons. Over the last six years, numerous functions and features have been added with various amounts of viability considerations.
Over the course of two years, we have provided two rounds of formal user testing as well as an informal guerrilla testing session. These sessions were conducted with CUNY students, faculty and staff members, with the intention of prioritizing development changes.
The results from testing led to intermediate and minor development changes to the site. Such as the re-naming of numerous menu items and the functionality of various tools. A list of larger priority changes was also created to affect change when time and the budget would allow for it.
